2. How to Change Your Name
1. Obtain an official certified marriage license.
On your wedding day we signed the licenses to complete the legal process of your marriage. However, the copy you kept is merely a souvenir copy. It can often be used to prove you're married in order to obtain discounts on your honeymoon and most places of work will accept it to change your benefits and health insurance if needed.
Other than that, its not a legal document and you can not use it as part of the name change process. You must obtain an "Official" or "Certified" copy of the license from the county that issued the original. Yes, they charge for it but usually its not more than $25. You can request this official copy from the county clerk about 10 days after the wedding to make sure they have received the copies I sent them in the mail. Legally I have 7 days in order to send it, but I ALWAYS do it on the next day.
2. Apply for a new social security card.
Once you receive the official marriage license you must apply for a new social security card. This is done through the federal government's Social Security Administration. NOT the Secretary of State, we will get to that later. One thing to note is that all services done through the Social Security Administration are free. This application and process can be done in person or vial mail.
Here is a link to the SSA website that will walk you through the process:

3. Update Your Driver's License
Once you receive you new social security card you can now go to the Secretary of State and obtain a new driver's license. DRIVER'S LICENSE NAME CHANGE LINK
4. Changing Your Name on Your Passport.
This is the one that is kind of tricky and gets expensive depending on how long ago your passport was issued. Here is a link that will help you through the process:

5. Everything Else
Once you have done all of the above your name is officially change legally and you can update your bank accounts and anything else you wish to going forward.
